FAQ - Booking & Scheduling
I just booked my appointment online. Now what?
You will receive an email from my wife, Sarah, confirming the appointment.
Why can’t I book during the week or in the middle of the day?
Justin has a “real” job during the week, and Sarah is busy with the PTA. Therefore, our days/times are limited. Since we shoot exclusively outdoor, we only offer photo sessions for two hours after sunrise and two hours before sunset, a time slot that changes throughout the year. This enables us to get the highest quality photos of your family. You can look up Dallas sunrise and sunset times at timeanddate.com/sun/usa/dallas.
When will I know the location of my appointment?
On the Wednesday before your appointment, you will receive an email from Sarah with the location. This email includes a google pin that will show you exactly where to meet us and park.
The weather looks like rain on the day of my appointment. What do I do?
Sarah is continually looking at the weather. If there is a chance of storms/rain Sarah will mention that in her email on Wednesday. If it is pouring down rain the day of the booking, Sarah will text you and email you asking to reschedule. We will do everything we can to reschedule you the following week.
FAQ - The Photoshoot Session
I have no idea what to wear for photos! What do I do?
Solid colors look the best in photos. We would encourage you to use Pinterest or Google “family photo clothing” to get some ideas. We do not recommend busy patterns on anyone or any outfit with big letters, graphics, or branding. We also encourage you to wear something you feel comfortable in and which does not wrinkle easily. Think about your shoes. Wear nice and comfortable shoes. You’ll thank us later. If you have girls in your photo, we recommend bringing a brush and pulling the hair away from the face. Nothing is worse than not being able to see the child’s face!
Can I bring my dog to the photoshoot?
Absolutely! We love capturing the entire family- even the four-legged ones! We do ask that you let us know ahead of time so we can be prepared.
How many people can come to my photo session?
It varies. The typical session is for five family members (and unlimited dogs!). The senior and graduate session is for a single individual. Large groups, including families of more than five people, should use the “standard session” type of session or book back-to-back mini sessions.
We have never taken family photos! How will we know what to do?
Capturing memories is something Justin loves more than anything. The best advice I can give you is to relax. Sarah handles all the lighting, and she always makes sure everyone is smiling at Justin. Kids will be kids, but we will do our best to make sure your child(ren) feel comfortable and smile naturally.
There are two big tips that we would give to any first-time family. First, if you are in the photo, please look at the camera and not your children. We often end up with photos where the children are looking at the camera (because Sarah is doing something funny behind me), but the parents are looking at the children! Second, if you are not in the photo, please stand directly behind Justin if you try to get your children’s attention. The second most common photo we get is children looking off to the side of the picture because that is where their parents are!
Can I bring my own props to the shoot?
Absolutely!!! We would love for you to bring your own small props, but they are not necessary! We do offer the numbers 0-9 as well as the letters that spell “FAMILY.” If you would like to use these, let Sarah know before your shoot so that we can have them ready!
If you have larger props or outfit changes, please make sure to read the additional info in each session type. Typically, large prop setups will need to book the “special session” type of photo session.
FAQ - Buying Photos
When will my photos be ready to review?
Sarah curates all the photos down from literally hundreds to the best ones – usually between 20 to 40 photo images. Justin digitally develops and color grades each of these photos. You will receive an email with a link to a secure online gallery. Each picture in the gallery will have a giant ugly watermark that will go away once you purchase them.
Do the digital photographs use the same format as the old-school film photographs?
Yes, and this is important if you wish to print your digital photos. All photos in the album are cropped into a 5x7 ratio by default (5x7, 10x14, 15x21, etc.). If you would like an 8x10 or square crop, please email us and let us know before you purchase. Justin can crop it so you do not accidentally cut off the head of someone in your family.
How does the minimum order size affect my purchase?
In the online gallery, you will see an option to purchase a package that contains the minimum number of photos (including “unlimited”). Once this is added to your shopping cart, you will be able to check out.
How long do I have to make a decision and purchase my photos?
Your online gallery is HUGE. The amount of storage required for high-quality photos is typically in the gigabyte range. Therefore, I'm only able to make the galleries available for approximately one week. After one week, the online gallery is deleted to make room for other customers' photos. I retain the original files offline for a little while before they are purged from my offline storage device. There is a chance that if you do not purchase your photos within a week, that they will be gone forever.
How long do you keep my photos?
We are guaranteed to keep your photos for at least one week after we publish the online gallery. We have multiple levels of backups and storage to ensure that we do not lose your files before you get a chance to purchase and download them. After one week, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to access the files again if you lose your copies or you have a hard drive failure. Be sure to backup your copy of your photos once you purchase and download them.
I've just made my purchase. How long do I have to download them?
After you purchase your photos, you will receive an email with a link to download the full-sized, non-watermarked digital photographs. This email also contains an expiration date for the download. If you do not download the photos before this date, then you risk losing access to those photos forever. It is important that you download (and backup) the digital photos immediately after purchase.
Where do I print my photos?
Anywhere! Sam’s Club, Costco, Walmart, Shutterfly. Wherever you would like. Just be mindful of the crop ratio of your photo. We also offer printed photos as a separate product for sale.
Will my photos be retouched?
All images will be cropped, developed, color graded, and lightly retouched at no additional charge. We do not currently offer “major” retouching of photos.
FAQ - Packages & Pricing
What packages do you offer and what is the cost?
Unlike most photographers, we don't charge for packages up-front. Instead, we only charge if you like the photos. We don't take deposits, do not collect any money before you see your photos, nor do we charge for the session time. We charge either for all the photos (our Standard Session) or there is a minimum order size on our mini-sessions - so if you don't like the photos, you pay nothing. If you like the photos, you must buy at least the minimum number before you can check-out - a low number that is less than our typical order size and varies based on the session length.
What do you charge to photograph a wedding?
Although we have photographed weddings before, both as the main photographer and as a second shooter, we do not offer a wedding session type in our business. There are many, many reasons for that. But primarily, we want to focus on making family photography simple and affordable for everyone. When time permits, we do offer our services as a second shooter to Hannah Anderson Photography. We highly recommend her as a wedding photographer, and her information can be found on her website at https://hannahandersonphotography.mypixieset.com
Can you photograph my special event? It's a birthday/anniversary/quinceañera/etc.
The short answer is "maybe." Contact us for more information.

How long have you been taking photos?
We have been married for over 25 years and have two children. Justin has always loved taking photos and started as a hobby that has turned into a passionate and fun part-time job for both of us.
